Fabrication of fertilizers
- Collecting microorganisms in the mountain and managing their reproduction
- Preparing bio repellents and organic fertilizers
- Producing Bokashi (natural fertilizer) and compost
Realization of Culture Beds
We use different ways to prepare culture bed:
- Working the soil with monoculture
- Realizing vegetative cover with pasture grass
- Remodeling soil with woods and vegetative cover (permaculture)
Maintenance of Cultures
After two weeks of leaving resting the plants, we do the first weeding, put bokashi and water them.
We have a seed recovery area in which we have vegetable varieties in development. According to their feature and variety, each one is collected and reproducing in different ways.
Soon we are going to welcome chicken in the farm. Currently we are working on a chicken house construction withe the volunteers. Chicken's feces will be use in the preparation of our own Bokashi.
Weeding with Animals
Our pig help us in the first soil weeding before the seeding. Using animals is a good technic to weeding without mechanics
Seeding & Planting
Depending on the planning, we realize the following vegetables planting: onion, leek, salad, carrot, pepper, garlic, zucchini, chard, broccoli, cabbage, kale, cauliflower, beetroot, turnip, condiment herbs, tomatoe, etc.
Each week, we prepare vegetables boxes to sell in Quito, in la Esperanza de Tabacundo and in surrounding areas.
We try, step by step, to realize plants combination in our different cultures. This process helps plants in their development, it's also permits to limit the use of natural fertilizer and insecticide.
We cover our culture beds with vegetative cover. It permits to protect the plants, save the humidity and it helps to limit the growth of weeds.
